The David Burke Tavern: A Tale of Two Floors in a Townhouse
If you were to casually stroll pass the David Burke Tavern on the Upper East Side, nestled in to the tony neighborhood of East 62nd Street, it would seem to be an unassuming place, judging strictly from the exterior and ground floor tavern. You would have no idea what you’re missing by not ascending to its second floor into a truly grand, eye-popping restaurant within an enormous townhouse. Comfy red leather booths line the room along with bookcases and various wines. There’s a red velvet-draped private room too, as well as a solarium. It’s sophisticated, elegant, and nothing at all like the casual ground floor.

This modern American restaurant is owned by award-winning celebrity Chef David Burke, and is the perfect setting for showcasing Burke’s remarkably creative cuisine and modern approach to classic fare.
The show-stopping presentations underscore his flair for whimsy and culinary grandeur, encompassing a blowtorch at the table for cooking the Clothesline Bacon, a Dr. Seuss-style cotton candy-topped tree of cheesecake sticks (bring the kids!) called a Cheesecake Lollipop Tree with bubblegum whipped cream that is awesome, and Hipster Fries that could be the most delicious salty treat you’ve ever tasted: it’s a divine melange of fries, charred shishito peppers, parmesan, bacon, and peppadew.
This is the type of place where you can savor everything from a perfect burger, salmon, branzino, lobster dumplings, mussels, tuna tartare, salads, soup, sides, superb dry-aged filet mignon and other steaks, chicken, roasted lamb rack, and various pasta offerings – something for everyone. You’ll also find an inspired cocktail and wine list. Dinner Prix Fixe is $55 per person, which is a great deal. If you go on a Saturday night, the atmosphere is convivial and celebratory, and the room is filled with everything from families with young children to business associates, people on first dates, and Date Night couples. Save room for dessert, because the pecan pie with caramel ice cream is heaven, as is the Key Lime Pie.
You can order takeout from David Burke Tavern too, reserve a private room for a party, and even watch a sports game down on the first floor. This is a place everyone can genuinely enjoy, especially for birthdays and other celebrations.
