Red Horse by David Burke

Celebrity chef David Burke is coming to Westchester.

Red Horse by David Burke, a modern American steakhouse with Asian accents, will open in early 2023 in the space that was, for 11 years, BLT Steak in White Plains. The 200-seat restaurant at The Opus Westchester will be the second steakhouse under the Red Horse banner, signaling Burke’s intention to grow the brand.

David Burke Hospitality Management (DBHM), the restaurant operating and consulting company helmed by Burke, also signed an 11-year lease for the 7,900-square-foot space.

Diners can expect Red Horse decorative hallmarks such as bold red-and-white stirrup print wallpaper, an installation of hand-blown red glass rods and a copy of the oil painting of a ruby colored horse from Burke’s collection that inspired the name. Guests will also be greeted by a life-size red horse sculpture that Burke has commissioned.

In addition there will be a massive pink Himalayan salt wall separating (but not hiding, courtesy of a row of windows), an open kitchen, eye-catching lighting fixtures and artwork, some of which comes directly from Burke’s own eclectic collection. Others will be obtained specifically for the new restaurant.

As for food, the menu will mirror that of the original Red Horse in Rumson, New Jersey with a focus on prime beef dry-aged using Burke’s patented Himalayan salt process. Other signature dishes will include popovers, clothesline bacon, lobster dumplings, salmon pastrami, Angry Lobster and pork chops with Sandy Hook clams casino.

So far, Burke has primarily concentrated his restaurant reach in his home state of New Jersey where he has opened four restaurants since March of 2020. He’s now, according to a press release from his company, looking forward to expanding his presence in New York. The White Plains Red Horse will join his flagship David Burke Tavern on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Red Salt Room and King Bar in Garden City and Salt & Char and Morrisey’s Lounge & Bistro in Saratoga.

Said Burke of the future Red Horse site: “It’s an impressive and very flexible space in a great location. I’m very excited about it as launching pad for the expansion of the Red Horse by David Burke brand. And I’m looking forward to becoming involved in the Westchester County dining scene and more involved with the Hudson Valley.”

Red Horse by David Burke is located at 121 Main St. in White Plains but will also have an entrance from The Opus, so it can be an on-site lunch, happy hour, dinner and weekend brunch option for hotel guests and residents of the Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester II.

Burke, known for his whimsical creative approach to contemporary American cuisine, currently operates or orchestrates (along with his management company) the culinary component of 17 restaurants and a historic event venue in the United States and Saudi Arabia. They also oversee a growing roster of David Burke branded products, including cookware, bakeware, steak sauce, cutlery, and wine. More information can be found at chefdavidburke.com.
